Who knows? Chameleon doesn't. From birth he has been constantly altering his form, scaring the delivery doctor, all the nurses and every nanny he has ever had. As a child he delighted in changing into pieces of furniture and leaping out to scare passersby. His Telekinetic powers did not manifest until his early teens but it did not take long to master.

James Whitmore is the mutant son of wealthy industrialist, brought up in high society and privilege. His amazing shape-shifting powers manifest in his early teens and the exploits of Ghost Archer and the Wild Hunt led this timid soul to fight his natural inclinations of cowardice. He became a major force in the fight against crime, all be it far in the background. His favorite tactic is to take the shape of something common, a mail box, a dumpster, a tree or an animal, and use his invisible telekinetic powers to pound hid enemies.

Chameleon is capable of assuming nearly any form, animate or inanimate. With this power, Chameleon will take a form that is unobtrusive and attack with his invisible Telekinesis powers, grabbing and slamming foes or punching them to insensibility.

Chameleon is a complete coward and acts like it most of the time. No one is sure what has made him into a successful member of the Wild Hunt but Ghost Archer trusts him and relies on his expertise at covert observation and infiltration.
